About Ray Finan
Ray set up Ray Finan Physiotherapy at Avena Leisure centre in 2010. Having originally graduated from the University of Limerick in 2007 with a BSc in Sports & Exercise Sciences, Ray travelled to Edinburgh to complete his MSc. in Physiotherapy at Queen Margaret University, graduating in 2009.
Upon his return home he began working with GAA and soccer clubs in the locality while building his business and continuing to improve his standards of care. He continues to work with Ballisodare Utd. and St. John’s GAA in the capacity of Team Physiotherapist.
Since graduating Ray has continued to expand his clinical knowledge and experience treating people from all walks of life and helping to rehabilitate them back to full function. He wants to give you all the tools you need to make yourself healthy again and return you to doing all the activities you enjoy in your life.
Ray spent 4 years (2010-2014) as Head Physiotherapist at Sligo Rovers FC, contributing to the most successful period in the club’s history, winning;
- 1 League Title,
- 2 FAI Cups and;
- 1 Setanta Cup.
Ray’s focus with each patient is to incorporate the best up-to-date evidence with a person-centred approach to provide an individualised treatment approach for each patient. Ray combines techniques such as Manual Therapy, Dry Needling, Pain Neuroscience Education and Motivational Interviewing to attempt to achieve the best outcome for each of his patients.
His focus is on finding the source of your pain and not just treating the painful site. This ensures that any improvements made during a session are retained and you can return to your pre-injury levels in the shortest time possible.
If manual therapy is required, this is followed up with exercise prescription to allow you to move better and take control of your own recovery.
